Final Project

This project requires you to demonstrate your knowledge of Western Civilization from the Pre-Classical Period to the Middle of the Early Modern Period. You will need to recall information, summarize, and draw conclusions on what you believe to be the most important events during this time period.

Your project will consist of three parts: a timeline, paragraphs for each events, and a paragraph explaining what you  believe to be the most significant event in Western Civilization. The project spans the length of the Western Civilization that we address this semester (Pre-Classical to the middle of the Early Modern Period). You may focus on any events, people, places, or eras from this time in History. Be sure to read all the instructions and include all parts of the project.

Task #1 –Timeline (Pre-Classical to Early Modern)

Create a timeline that clearly identifies significant events from our semester of Western Civilization based around a common theme – war, technology, art, politics, etc. Identify and label what you think are the 10 most important historical events from Western Civilization during the span of your timeline.

Events may include anything that you consider significant. Some suggestions include: one of Alexander the Great’s conquests, the Theodosian Code, one of the battles in the Crusades, the Christian schism, an aspect of Feudalism, Oath of Allegiance (Henry VIII), the Old Kingdom of Egypt, etc. These events may be generalized time periods or themes as listed above or specific events from these time periods such as the weapon technology, the rise of a political leader, or death of a key person.

Task #2 – Introduction

Take two to three paragraphs to explain how your timeline represents the most significant events to Western Civilization. This is where you are justifying your claims/ideas to a larger audience. You are setting up an argument that explains why your 10 events are the most important events to Western Civilization. EVERYTHING MUST BE CITED WITH IN-TEXT CITATIONS OR FOOTNOTES.

Task #3 – Summary of Each Event

Write a two paragraph summary for each event, as well as its importance to Western Civilization. Your paragraphs should include specific dates and at least one significant person, place, and artifact connected to each event on your timeline. You will also need to include: either a quote from a primary source (from the time period) or an image of an artifact from each event. (Student created illustration, political cartoon, photo-copied image, photograph, etc.). EVERYTHING MUST BE CITED WITH IN-TEXT CITATIONS OR FOOTNOTES.

Task #4- The Most Significant Event in Western Civilization

Based on the events you identified on your timeline, identify what you feel is the most significant event, time period, or turning point in Western Civilization. Explain and justify why you selected this event as the most significant in no less than 2 paragraphs
