SOURCING OVERVIEW

When asked to read, analyze, and evaluate the credibility of historical documents, students often panic at first. As educators, we get it. Building your confidence in your  ability to analyze sources takes time and practice. That’s why this course will use the Sourcing Tool for you, which provides a clear procedure (a checklist of sorts) for sourcing historical documents. In the course, you will encounter many documents that you will be asked to evaluate for credibility. Through the consistent use of the Sourcing Tool, you’ll become confident about your sourcing skills.

Sourcing Tool

I recommend saving many, many copies of the Sourcing Tool  and never looking at a historical document without it. Eventually, you may not need the template itself—but as you’re getting started, this resource should always be in your back pocket as you encounter historical texts to evaluate and analyze.
